Has this ever happened to you?  Someone says something, and you don’t give it much thought.  Then, it keeps coming back to your mind; and the more it does, the more it sinks in.  That’s what happened to me.  I was sharing some thoughts about a Sunday message dealing with the topic of change and its part in the Christmas story.  Then that person said, “Speaking of change, Baby Jesus’ diaper was changed, too.”  I chuckled and went on.  But later on I started to think.  The Lord of Creation, the Rock of Ages, the Eternal I AM, the Alpha and Omega needed a diaper change.  Now I certainly don’t mean to be crude, nor do I in any way desire to demean the glory of our Savior, but that thought staggers my imagination.  It brings a new and profound meaning to the passage found in Philippians 2:6-8. “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”  He humbled Himself.  Think about that!  God became man.  The Creator became as His creation.  The Great Shepherd gave His life for the sheep gone astray.  The Light immersed Himself in darkness.  The Holy One was made sin for us.  The Just died for the unjust.  The Immutable God of the Universe needed His diaper changed.  Why?  To rescue you and me from our hopelessly lost condition and give us forgiveness, eternal life, blessed hope, and, on top of all that, a home in Heaven.  The Apostle Paul said it well: “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift!”
