Today is the end.  Tomorrow is the beginning.  Today the book closes on 2015, and tomorrow 2016 opens its first chapter.  Life seems to be made up of beginnings and endings, doesn’t it?  School begins and ends.  Vacations begin and end.  Seasons begin and end.  Our children’s time at home begins and ends (and how that one flies by!).  In fact, life itself begins and ends.  And the list could go on and on.  Some beginnings are enthusiastically welcomed, while others are painfully dreaded.  Some things we hate to see end, and other ends can’t come quickly enough. I guess in a way, dealing with life involves learning to deal with beginnings and endings.  That’s something we all need help with.  And God’s Word mentions just the help you need!  In Revelation 22:13, the Lord Jesus says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”  The beginnings and endings of your life can be faced with the enabling grace of the One who is The Beginning and End.  One commentator put it this way: “He will thus show that He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end…He formed the world, and He will wind up its affairs.  In the beginning, the continuance, and the end, He will be recognized as the same Being presiding over and controlling all.”  I really like that last part – “presiding over and controlling all.”  As you end today and begin tomorrow, know this: whatever 2016 brings, your Alpha and Omega is still on the throne!
