“Would you just be still?!?”  Ever said that to one of your children?  Or had it said to you?  It’s not really a question, is it?  More like an imperative.  That’s essentially what Moses said to his people right there beside the Red Sea.  Exodus 14 tells us the story.  The miraculous and joyous deliverance from the slavery of Egypt was several days past, and the people of God found themselves on a path and in a place they had not expected.  God had led them a different direction and right into a trap, or so they thought.  Pharaoh decided he wanted his slaves back and sent his army to fetch them.  And there Israel sat.  Pharaoh’s army behind, and them trapped in the cul-de-sac of mountains, sand wasteland, and the mighty Red Sea.  In fearful desperation they went to Moses bitterly complaining about their plight.  “Why’d you bring us out here just to die?”  “We told you to leave us alone.”  “We’d be better off back in Egypt as slaves than here in this mess.”  And then Moses said it.  “Would you just be still?!?”  Actually Exodus 14:13-14 says it this way: “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord…the Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”  In other words, “Don’t even think about going back to Egypt.  God will work; just give Him a chance.”  And God did.  Ever hear of the parting of the Red Sea?  By the way, have you ever felt as if you were at a dead end and trapped with the enemy closing in?  Thinking to yourself, “I’ve followed the Lord, and look where I’ve ended up!”?  Remember this, there are no dead ends when you follow God’s will.  Hard times?  Yes.  Pressing circumstances?  Sure.  But no dead ends.  Just opportunities for God to part the waters.  And He will, and then you’ll cross over and move on.  But you must be still, stand firm, and give God a chance to work before you throw in the towel.  Don’t miss the miracle!
