Ever felt like quitting?  Giving up?  Throwing in the proverbial towel?  You’re not alone.  Asaph, Elijah, Jeremiah, and Demas, just to name a few, felt the same way.  Asaph (Psalm 73) looked at the prosperous lifestyle of the wicked and essentially thought to himself, “It’s not fair; I’ve wasted my time following Jehovah.”  Elijah (1 Kings 19) felt attacked and all alone and began to travel the road of self-pity.  Jeremiah (Jeremiah 20) complained about being in over his head and said, “My enemies are making my life miserable; it’s just too hard.”  And Demas (2 Timothy 4), after years of faithfulness, decided he was tired of it all and that he wanted to live out the rest of his days somewhere besides dusty roads, angry mobs, judgment halls, and jails.  For each one, quit knocked at the door, and they all reached to answer it.  But Asaph went to the sanctuary instead and discovered God was real and would be the strength of his heart.  Elijah listened to God’s still, small voice, left the pity party, and went back to finish what God had laid out for him.  Jeremiah felt the burning conviction of the truth of God’s word and realized he just couldn’t keep quiet.  And Demas?  Well, Demas answered the door.  He quit.  And although he was a faithful, blessed servant of the Lord for many years, all he’s really known for is that moment when he decided he’d had enough and quit.  So if you feel like quitting today, understand you’re not alone.  It happens.  In fact you’re in good company.  But if you actually quit, well, now you’re in bad company.  Don’t be a Demas.
