“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”  As the Patmos-bound Apostle John looked around at the corrupt days of his time and compared them to the glorious revelation of future events just shared with him, it’s easy to see why those words erupted from his heart.  As I look around today at the spiritual decay we face in our country, I feel the same way.  It seems that every day something new happens in the raging cultural warfare.  Advancing suppression of religious liberties.  Additional pressure to embrace and celebrate Scripturally-condemned lifestyles.  Blatant denial of the Divine Creator’s masterpiece of creating male and female with nothing else and nothing in-between.  And on top of all that, the ongoing plague of abortion.  Yes, John had it right.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus!  But here’s something to think about.  He hasn’t come yet, and we don’t know when it’s going to happen (but rest assured, it is!).  So what are we going to do while we wait?  Just sit around and long for that Heavenly country, or obey the Master’s command illustrated in Luke 19:13, “Occupy till I come”?  Also, in Matthew 5, you remember that our Lord Jesus told His followers that we are to be salt and light.  Well, salt’s preserving value only comes when it is in contact with that which needs preserving.  And light is the most effective only when it engages the darkness.  In other words, expect and engage.  Expect the Lord’s coming at any moment, but until He does, engage the lost world with the Gospel and its life-changing message.  Be that salt and light at home, at school, on the job, and in that one area we may tend to neglect, the political arena.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with looking for Christ’s coming today.  But there’s a lot wrong with sitting on our hands while we wait.  So while you expect, don’t forget to actively engage!
