No, I really don’t want to write about it [insert long sigh here], but it seems to be the dominating focus of our nation this week.  More importantly, it’s the lesson that the Lord has put on my heart that points me in this direction.  No doubt you’ve followed the Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Kavanaugh and his appointment to the Supreme Court.  My purpose isn’t to say whether he should or shouldn’t be confirmed; it’s just to make a point that I believe we can can glean from all this.  No matter where one falls politically, to say that confusion has reigned over the hearings would be an understatement.  Accusations, denials, attacks, defense, political maneuvering, and social media explosion have all been the order of the day.  Through it all, what I’d like to know (and I’m sure you would, too) is the simple truth.  And that’s where the Lord reminded me of something.  Sometimes life’s circumstances can get a lot like this week’s Senate hearing.  Pure confusion.  Different sides vying for an advantage – at your expense.  Not knowing what or who to believe.  Questions without answers and problems seemingly with no solutions.  What is right?  What is wrong?  Where is the truth?  I am so glad that we, as God’s children, have His word.  Truth is there.  Its direction is clear, its precepts are unchanging, and its comfort brings a peace and assurance beyond comprehension.  So no matter what happens in Washington this week, or, for that matter, no matter what happens in my world this week, I still have the truth of God’s word that I can count on, lean on, and pass on.  And so do you.
