Paul had it right.  In 1 Corinthians 3, he was addressing the divided and strife-filled church about their professed allegiances to different leaders.  Some claimed Paul, some Apollos, some Peter.  Some even claimed Christ, but in a way that they believed made them superior to the rest.  In verses 5-9 Paul, penning the inspired word of God, tried to correct their faulty thinking.  He told them that it’s not really about a man; it’s all about God.  Some plant, some water, some do this or that; and it’s God that truly gives the harvest and deserves the glory.  Then he says this in verse 9: “For we are laborers together with God.”  As I said, Paul had it right.  I know he did for a couple of reasons.  First, the Bible says so, and the Bible is always right.  Secondly, I’ve seen it in action this week.  Last night we wrapped up our 2017 VBS.  It was a great week, first and foremost because of God.  But we had a lot of “laborers together” as well.  My heart is full this morning because of what I saw in them – willing servants, joyfully serving the Lord and the children who attended.  Some greeted, some registered, some taught, some served snacks, some sang, some did crafts, some cleaned, some decorated, some (really one) did magic tricks, some rolled coins, some tallied points, some … well, I think you get the idea.  Oh yes, and they all “undecorated” and restored the church to its normal state when it was over.  It’s hard to put into words the blessing they were to me this week, but I’m trying.  Best of all, God gave what Paul called “the increase.”  Three young hearts trusted Christ as Savior, the gospel seed was planted in many more, and the all the children were challenged to make the Bible the foundation for their lives.  Thank you, VBS workers, for being “laborers together with God”!
