The angels got it right!  The angel of the Lord had just finished announcing Christ’s birth to the shepherds, and if that was unexpected, what happened next was even more so.  In fact, the Bible says that “suddenly” a host of angels joined that single messenger.  That word carries the idea that it happened seemingly out of nowhere.  And they were there for just one reason and one reason alone, as we see in their words of praise, “Glory to God in the highest!”  In that brief phrase, the angels show us the purpose of the birth of the Babe of Bethlehem.  He came to be the Savior – Glory to God in the highest!  He brought the “good tidings of great joy…to all people,” to whosoever – Glory to God in the highest!  He came with the directive seen throughout the Christmas story to “Fear not” – Glory to God in the highest!  He came to be Emmanuel, God with us – Glory to God in the highest!  And by the way, He’s promised to come again – Glory to God in the highest!  Will our Christmas celebration be one that gives “Glory to God in the highest”?  Will we live our lives this Christmas and beyond in such a way that brings “Glory to God in the highest”?  Yes, the angels certainly got it right!  But have we?
