Steadfast.  Steadfast in the truth and authority of God’s word.  Steadfast in following Christ wherever and however He leads.  Steadfast in the storms and trials of life.  This is what we’ve looked at over the last few weeks, but there’s more to consider.  I guess we could discuss several other ways to follow the encouragement of 1 Corinthians 15:58, but I’ll keep it to just one more.  It’s something we face every day.  Something we battle repeatedly.  Something we’ll have to deal with until the day the Lord calls us home.  That something is temptation, that enticement to break God’s law, rebel against His will, and live for ourselves instead of for Him.  The attack of our own flesh.  The attack of the world.  The attack of the Devil.  We must stand steadfast against temptation.  When accosted by our flesh, think Joseph saying “No” to Potiphar’s wife and running away (Genesis 39).  When coerced by the world to compromise our walk as children of God, think Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego standing tall when everyone else bowed (Daniel 3).  And when confronted by Satan’s wiles, think Job as he faced the crushing circumstances orchestrated by the enemy of our souls with the words, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1).  Yes, steadfast against temptation.  How?  By being steadfast in the Word – Psalm 119:11.  By being steadfast in keeping our eyes on Christ – Hebrews 12:1-3.  By being steadfast in faith in our Almighty God – 1 Peter 5:8-9; Ephesians 6:10.  In this day, in this critical time, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
