Following the crowd can be a dangerous thing.  A couple of millennia ago, on what we now call a Sunday , the crowd sang, praised, and exalted the One who they said had come “in the name of the Lord.”  They lined the streets, strewed palm branches, and spread their robes to honor the One they called “the son of David.”  The tremendous wave of emotion brought the word “Hosanna” to their lips and swept over the entire city of Jerusalem (Matthew 21:7-11).  Now fast forward just a few days.  Same city. Same crowd. But a different cry.  Now, instead of joyous praise, the dark emotion of hate and malice brought another phrase to their lips.  “Away with Him! Crucify Him!” spit out the crowd as they were swayed and manipulated by the enemies of the Messiah.  The crowd had gone from hosanna to hate.  From royalty to rejection.  From blessing to blasphemy.  Like I said, following the crowd is not a good idea.  However, the Messiah that entered Jerusalem on that Palm Sunday was the same Messiah who later humbly submitted to the Father’s will, went to the cross, and said, “It is finished.”  He never swayed, faltered, or changed His mind.  Our Lord was true to the purpose for which He had come into the world.  And it saved my soul.  Forget the crowd; I think I’ll follow Him.  How about you?
