What’s a Christian to do?  How do we respond to the firestorm that now assaults Biblical morality, values, and even the true gospel?  Because respond we must!  I believe some simple words will help.  May I share them with you?  If you were in our Sunday evening service about a month ago, this will be a review.  We must respond spiritually.  The battle is not cultural or political; therefore, we must confront it dressed in the whole armor of God and leaning on His Spirit (Ephesians 6:10-18).  We must also respond boldly (Jude 3).  You see, the Bible is right, and anything that contradicts it is wrong.  It’s that simple.  Speaking of the Bible, be sure to respond intelligently.  If God’s word is the answer, we must know it and be able to express it (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  Now as we express the truth of Scripture, we must respond articulately.  Have you ever noticed how Peter, Stephen, and Paul confronted their attackers in Acts?  No angry rants, no fleshly-motivated threats, no talking in circles.  Just straightforward, well put together, Bible-based, God-honoring responses.  As we respond, we must respond carefully.  By that I mean that if we’re going to talk the talk, we’d better, by God’s grace, walk the walk (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).  Something else – respond purposefully.  Our stand must be with one purpose: for God’s glory alone and certainly not for our own agenda or advancement (Matthew 5:16).  As we respond, no matter what happens, we must respond faithfully.  Don’t quit; don’t back down.  Never give up hope.  Ask God to help us finish well, just like the Apostle Paul did (2 Timothy 4:6-7).  Last, but not least, there’s this.  In fact, this might be the most important part of our response.  Respond compassionately.  If we do not stand and respond in the love of God, all we do is meaningless, right?  If you haven’t looked up any of the other passages I’ve mentioned, be sure to at least read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.  So the next time you’re talking about that “bathroom bill,” politics, sexual orientation, abortion, marriage, or any other hot button topic of the day, stand for truth.  Stand for your Lord.  But by all means, be mindful that we call ourselves Christians, and our Savior’s name is at stake.  Respond in the right way!
