I guess it hit me harder because of where I had just spent the last few days.  Tina and I got home from Tennessee last night after taking care of our 1-year-old granddaughter while her dad and mom took an anniversary trip (we had a great time!), and I took a few minutes to catch up on the local news.  And I saw that June 22 is the day.  The day that a group in our community is sponsoring a Macon Pride event, celebrating and promoting the LGBTQ+ lifestyle and encouraging others to join them.  As I looked over the some of the scheduled events, I noticed that at 3:30 some of our city representatives will be reading a Pride Day proclamation.  I wonder if these will be some of the same city representatives that gathered back in May for the National Day of Prayer for our community and nation.  That would be interesting….  Then I noticed one event description that shook me.  It said this: “Activities and games for kids and Drag Queen Storytime at 4:00 p.m.”  Drag Queen Storytime for kids.  No.  Just no.  This seems to be the world my grandchildren are growing up in.  And I shudder.  Then I pray for their parents and for God’s grace to protect them.  Not because of any hatred towards the LGBTQ+ community, but because of the sin they promote and expect me to affirm and celebrate, even though God’s word clearly condemns it.  But God’s word also tells of His love for the world and the forgiveness of sin and deliverance through the atoning work of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.  And I pray that those in the Pride community will find that deliverance through Christ.  Too, I pray that we believers will manifest the love expressed through the gospel of Christ towards all, both straight and gay.  Having said that, we must remember, however, that sin, no sin, is worthy of celebrating, much less being proud of.  And it breaks my heart to see it happening here.
