I’ve never been known for having a “green thumb.”  I can cut grass, edge, and knock weeds down, but my wife is the one with the gardening talent.  However, I can tell when a plant needs water, and a couple of mornings ago I noticed that the plants by the front doors of the church were looking droopy (is that a gardening term?).  Anyway, I watered them and noticed later on that day that they had slowly returned to a healthy-looking shape.  Now I try to remember to put water on them each day, and guess what?  They don’t droop.  It’s still hot; it’s still dry; the circumstances that led to the “droop” still linger.  But the bit of care and watering each day keep them in the right shape.  And if I neglect the watering (as I’ve done in the past), it doesn’t take long to see the effects.  According to Psalm 1:3, life can be like that.  Sometimes we find our lives blasted by extreme heat.  Or maybe anything from a dry spell to a full blown drought.  You look in the mirror and see withering, drooping leaves.  It doesn’t have to be that way, though, if you understand what Psalm 1:2 and 3 teach us.  A daily delight and dousing with the refreshing water of the Word of God and walk with God can restore you to a productive, stand-tall life for Him.  But it may take some time.  The plants I watered didn’t suddenly jump back to their usual, healthy-looking selves, but they got there.  Go to God’s word today; spend some time soaking it up.  God promises that you’ll see a difference tomorrow.  And if you practice it daily, you’ll stay that way.  No, that blast of the heat or the drought may not change, but you’ll withstand it.  Or as the Scripture says, “his leaf also shall not wither.”
