“It ain’t bragging if you can do it.”  So said the Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Dizzy Dean.  Bragging.  We all tend to do it to some extent, some more than others.  Some about the old days and the faintly, slightly (and sometimes greatly) embellished high school sports career.  Some about bargains on a car, a house, clothing, or some other purchase.  Some about a big fish, a downed buck, or that incredible day on the dove field.  And how about this?  Our children and grandchildren and their accomplishments – who hasn’t done some bragging there?  I’m sure sometimes it’s not bragging but simply sharing blessings, and we understand the difference.  The Bible talks about bragging, but it often uses the wording “to glory” in something.  And that’s where today’s thought comes in.  Jeremiah 9:23-24 says this: “Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”  No matter what we gain or accomplish in life, what matters most is knowing the Lord, knowing His will and doing it, and letting others know what a good and great God He is, especially in His offer of salvation.  As I heard one preacher put it, “bragging on Jesus.”  So, when that tendency to brag comes up, let’s make sure we keep the Lord at the top of that list!
