It was good, very good. God Himself said so. There is no doubt that the beauty of the newly-created and sinless world surpassed anything we would see today. The crowning achievement of creation, man in the image of God, stood ready to live in fellowship with Him and serve in caring for that perfect place called Eden. But there was a problem. Adam was alone. He was obviously below the level of Deity and the angelic realm, but he was certainly above the “living creatures” of the animal kingdom he had just named. Yes, in all the beauty, majesty, and perfection of creation, Adam was still alone. And God said in Genesis 1:18, “It is not good that the man should be alone….” Then He stepped down and custom made exactly what Adam needed: a wife. Now, creation was not only good, it was complete. One Bible commentator observed, “She was not made out of his head to surpass him, nor from his feet to be trampled on, but from his side to be equal to him, and near his heart to be dear to him.” Thirty-five years ago tomorrow, the Lord did the same thing for me. In His grace, He gave me the wonderful wife He knew I needed. And by His grace, here we are today. So I suppose I’m not really writing today’s note for you, but for that one person – my love, my best friend, my completer. Happy anniversary, Tina. I love you.
