Sometimes things get a little crowded.  Like schedules.  I’m sure you know what I mean!  And when schedules get crowded, things can easily get pushed aside.  Like a “Pastor’s Heart” email/post.  As I’ve gone through my morning today, this note has been pushed back and almost aside.  But then I thought, “I’ve got to just do it and take care of the “Pastor’s Heart”!  That’s when the topic I had in mind changed to this one.  That thought that I really need to take care of the pastor’s heart today goes way beyond an email or Facebook post.  Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”  Here the Lord challenges us to, as one commentator put it, keep, or guard, our hearts “more than all keeping.”  Why?  “Because the heart is…the source of whatever affects life and character.”  It’s very easy to allow the pace of life to crowd out that which matters most: our time with the Lord in His word that challenges and prepares our heart for whatever a day may bring.  If that is pushed aside, the heart just isn’t ready for what we may face.  If it is continually put on the back burner, the heart grows cold, maybe even apathetic, or, even worse, hard.  Today the Lord reminded me that no matter how busy I get, I must take care of the pastor’s heart, my heart.  Perhaps the reminder is for you today as well.  Let’s never allow our keeping up with everything else hinder that which we need to keep above all else: our hearts!
