The Bible is clear, but the United States Congress doesn’t seem to understand.  Neither does the current administration in the White House.  God in His word defines marriage as the union of one biological man and one biological woman with the purpose of being together for life.  Period.  Yet, our federal government is now promoting what it is calling the “Respect for Marriage Act.”  The bill’s title is certainly misleading.  It seeks to promote and protect a purported marriage that clearly is not Scriptural nor even traditional, and it is calling for respect for that which God clearly condemns.  Look it up; it’s H.R. 8404.  It’s already easily passed the House of Representatives, and now it more than likely will come before the Senate soon.  The President has already thrown his full support behind the bill and will sign it if it passes and goes to his desk.  So what do we do?  Caustic and scathing social media posts will do very little.  Why not start by praying based on Proverbs 21:1? “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will.”  Then, be firm in what you believe about God’s unchanging word and its teaching on marriage and morality.  Psalm 119:89 says, “For ever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven.”  Contact your U.S. Senators (don’t assume they are for or against it – contact them!) and communicate your opposition to the “Respect for Marriage Act” in the spirit of Ephesians 4:15, “But speaking the truth in love.”  Finally, be faithful in living and sharing the gospel of Christ, for that is the true hope for America’s return to God, because “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).  Body of Christ, let us stand.  Stand resolutely.  Stand unashamedly.  Stand vocally.  Stand graciously.  Stand faithfully.  Stand on the final authority, the Word of God.  By all means, stand.
