There are a couple of verses that have been popping up over the last couple of weeks, both in talking with people and in my own mind.  They’re short verses, and they sound real simple.  One is the first part of Psalm 55:22 that says, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.”  The other is the well-known Scripture in 1 Peter 5:7. “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.”  Sounds real simple, doesn’t it?  Just cast whatever happens in your life on God.  Not so fast.  Problem #1: We often try to fix things or handle things ourselves.  Not a good idea, but that’s how we are.  Problem #2: We cast it on the Lord, but then we take it back.  It’s hard to leave it there, isn’t it?  But if we can just learn to do exactly what these verses say, we would find that they truly work.  God’s peace will be real.  God’s grace will be sufficient.  God’s presence will be almost tangible.  Any casting you need to do today? Just follow the advice of the old hymn. “Leave it there, leave it there; Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there; If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out; Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.”
