Each week I look for a short quote to put in our church bulletin.  Sometimes the right one jumps out at me, and sometimes it’s a multiple choice problem.  While recently looking for that “just right” quote, I came across one by A. W. Tozer that stopped me and made me think.  So instead of the bulletin, I think I’ll use it for this week’s note.  It goes like this: “If God gives you a watch, are you honoring Him more by asking Him what time it is or by simply consulting the watch?”  Life’s journey can have many confusing “times.”  Up times, down times, scary times, confusing times, hard times, and, well, you get the point.  The Lord knows that, so He’s given us a “watch.”  We call it the Bible.  Listen to what Psalm 119 says.  “Make me to go in the path of Thy commandments; for therein do I delight.  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (verses 35 and 105).  Often the frustration or confusion we have with life simply comes from a lack of saturation with the Word of God.  We consult it only in times of emergency instead of on a daily basis.  We aren’t faithful to God’s house to hear the Word.  Or we show up for church on Sunday mornings; but for some reason, we never seem to make it to Sunday school, Sunday night or Wednesday Bible study.  And we wonder why we’re dazed, discouraged, or defeated.  Don’t get me wrong.  God wants us to go to Him with our problems.  He wants us to seek His face for wisdom.  But He didn’t give us His Word to decorate our coffee tables and night stands or collect dust between Sundays.  So today, if you’re wondering about the “time” you’re facing, decide to honor Him by faithfully consulting that “watch” He’s given to us.  The answer’s there!
