You’ve probably read a lot about the heat over the last few days – triple digits, heat advisory, heat index, etc.  It almost makes a body thirsty just writing about it.  It’s a given that one of several very important ways to deal with the heat is to stay well hydrated.  In other words, plenty of water is imperative when the heat is on.  You know if you think about it, that’s not bad advice for your spiritual life, either.  You’re probably sitting in a well-cooled room as you read this, but the heat is still on, isn’t it?  The financial crunch.  Health problems.  Conflicted relationships.  Job uncertainty.  That big decision.  Maybe life in general for you right now is one pressure cooker moment after another.  Even in these things, the same principle applies.  Plenty of water.  You see, God says, “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground” (Isaiah 44:3).  “I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing” (Ezekiel 34:26).  “I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).  “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.  I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water” (Isaiah 41:17-18).  When the heat is on, go to your Lord like King David did in Psalm 63:1: “O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee: my soul thirsteth for Thee….”  Stay spiritually hydrated!
