It’s still there. I checked just this morning. And it’s still relevant. After seeing all the reaction to the last couple of weeks, I felt the need to see if it was still true (obviously, I say that tongue-in-cheek). I’ve seen a lot of negativity, a lot of “woe is me,” and even a lot of caustic and disrespectful responses. And frankly, it bothers me. Now don’t get me wrong; I’m just as concerned as the next Bible-believing Christian. Our nation is indeed headed the wrong way morally and spiritually. God’s judgment is a real possibility. It’s also quite disconcerting to see those who claim to believe the Scripture begin to waffle and even change their stand on the truth of God’s Word. And who knows how things will be in a couple of years? So with all that going on, I went to see if Psalm 100 was still standing. You know… that’s the passage we often dust off and read every year on the fourth Thursday of November before we carve the turkey. But guess what? It’s true for the second Friday of July, too! And every day for that matter. “Serve the Lord with gladness.” “Come…with singing.” “Enter…with thanksgiving.” “Be thankful.” And “bless His name.” It’s true; we are in a real battle. But isn’t that the way it’s been since Adam and Eve fell into sin? Yes, we now face an America quite different from the one I grew up in. So how can we live those words like “gladness,” “singing,” “thanksgiving,” and “bless”? Well, the answer’s right there in that same Psalm. Verse 3 encourages us to “Know ye that the Lord, He is God,” and then verse 5 reminds us that “the Lord is good.” When you wake up every morning, no matter what you see, remember this: God is still God, and God is still good. I don’t know about you, but that will keep me making that joyful noise and keep me serving with gladness, whether it’s Thanksgiving Day or not!
